Spring Carnival Horse Show

Since it’s debut in 2020, the ABSS Spring Carnival has surpassed all expectations. With over 350 competitors the first year, over 400 in 2021 and over 500 in 2022, we expect this show to get better each year. With a program that caters for competitors at every level, regardless of breed, this royal level event is not to be missed.

Carnival Dates

Scheduled to take place on the 24th – 26th of November 2023, the ABSS Spring Carnival will be held at the Bendigo Prince of Wales Show Grounds. This show will feature a large range of Breed classes, Topsy Ring, Open rings, young stock classes and the coveted Twilight Saddle Jubilee. To celebrate “life after racing” we will also showcase Off the Track Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds and have some great, racing-inspired fun.

Fashions on the Field

No Spring Carnival celebration is quite the same without Fashions on the Field. Across the weekend we will feature several opportunities for our fashion conscious competitors, this includes the Thoroughbred and Standardbred sections, as well as part of our Twilight feature event.

Open to all competitors, our feature event will be an opportunity to show your individual style and flair, under the eye of a special guest judge from Myer. Competitors will complete a workout with their horse and there are lots of great prizes on offer.

Twilight Saddle Jubilee

On Saturday the 25th of November, we will be offering an elite program, featuring the best of the best. Following on from our Fashions on the Field event, the Twilight Saddle Jubilee has amazing prizes on offer and will be conducted under the eye of 3 special guest judges.

Riders will be assessed on their overall presentation, ridden workout, conformation and type. With 3 separate Supreme Champion awards on offer, this is one you do not want to miss!

Harness Feature

The Committee of the ABSS are excited to announce that our 2023 Spring Carnival will once again contain a harness feature. Taking place on Friday 24th November, we are dedicating a whole day to those competing with their ponies and horses in harness.

Thanks to generous support from our loyal sponsors, our harness program contains a great range of classes and some amazing prizes. It definitely makes polishing those carts and harness worth while!

Novice Riders, Topsy Ring and Pony Club

Like all elite sports, the top levels of the equine show scene is not for the faint-hearted! It is a very competitive industry and lots of time, money and effort go into its pursuit.

Here at the ABSS, we understand that not everyone has the desire or expertise to compete at the top level. Getting out and having fun with your equine partner is one of the most satisfying parts of horse ownership and we applaud those who just want to get out and have a go.

If you are just starting out, don’t worry! If you’ve never been to a show or don’t have all the fancy gear, this one’s for you! If you haven’t yet mastered the canter, we got you! Our Sunday program offers classes for those who are new to the show scene. We have included Walk/Trot classes for both children and adults and this ring has lots of amazing prizes

This year’s show will see the return of the very popular Topsy section (including Fancy Dress) and we can’t wait to see what amazing costumes you will come up with this year!
